Day 10 – Dead to Sin, Alive to God
In an earlier lesson, we saw that death comes before life. Before Jesus could be raised to new life, He had to die. He Himself proclaimed this: Jn 12:24 (NLT): “I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat is planted in the soil and dies, it remains alone. But its death will produce many new kernels—a plentiful harvest of new lives.” Since we have identified with Him, the same is true for us. That’s why our spirit had to die before we could become a new spirit.
But what we now see is that this truth gets played out daily in our lives. Before we can experience and demonstrate the resurrection life here on the earth, we must die. We must die to sin and live for God. Romans 6:1-11 shows this contrast:
V 4 | we were buried with Him through baptism into death | just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life |
V 5 | if we have been united together in the likeness of His death | certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection, |
V 6-7 | our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with | we should no longer be slaves of sin. For he who has died has been freed from sin |
V 8 | if we died with Christ | we shall also live with Him |
V 10 | the death that He died, He died to sin once for all | the life that He lives, He lives to God |
V 11 | consider yourselves to be dead indeed to sin | but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord |
