Day 1 - Much More!

Jesus came to the earth to give us life.

Jn 10:10 The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.

In this verse, He explains that He wants us to have not only “life,” but “abundant life!” He also explains that there is someone else who is working against us – the thief.

We all understand that life can throw some curveballs our way – things don’t always work out the way we’d like, and we can end up suffering a fair bit of pain for all kinds of reasons. It could be the result of our own decisions, the result of others’ decisions, and it can be that the thief – Satan, the devil – is trying to steal, kill or destroy something in our lives.

But Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil (1Jn 3:8). This doesn’t mean the devil can’t do anything in our lives; rather it means that we can overcome his works. This requires knowledge on our part as well as a conscious effort to act on that knowledge.

First, we need to know what Jesus has done for us in general terms. Second, we need to see how that applies to us individually. And third, we need to know our responsibilities in all of this.

The good news is that He has done Much More for us than we can imagine! We get a taste of this in Matt 7:11, where Jesus Himself says, “If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!” He is a God of Much More! He doesn’t do just enough to scrape through.

He is an abundant God who wants us to live abundant lives. This means that the salvation Jesus brought is an abundant salvation. There is Much More to it than most people realise. The 5th chapter of Romans brings this out beautifully, and over the next 5 lessons, we will examine this in some detail.

Before we continue, please read over Rom 5:8-21.
