Day 10 – The House of the Lord

And I will dwell in the house of the Lord Forever. Ps 23:6

While the temporal blessings are wonderful, they pale in comparison with the eternal.

Forever – what does that mean? We tend to think of it as a “really long time.” And while this is understandable, it falls short of its true meaning. In fact, it falls infinitely short. Forever is part of the infinite nature of God. Our brains cannot fully fathom what infinity is. If you spent your life counting as high as you could go (probably to a couple of billion or so), you’d still be no closer to infinity than you were when you started. The stanza from “Amazing Grace” brings this out:

When we’ve been there ten thousand years,

Bright shining as the sun,

We’ve no less days to sing God’s praise

Than when we’d first begun.

Forever – it doesn’t speak of time; rather it describes a state, a condition. This is hard for us to comprehend because we are bound by time, and everything we do is on a schedule. But in eternity there is no schedule. We are simply with God – face to face (Rev 22:4) – and it never changes.

Dwelling in the house of the Lord shows the assurance we have of our salvation when we trust in Him, following Him throughout our lives. While circumstances change, and we face trials and difficulties, God always has a hold on us. Rom 8:38-39 says: “For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

God will never loosen His hold on you. Make sure you don’t ever release your hold on Him!
