Day 9 – But…

When you hear about God’s salvation through Jesus, it is the best news you can ever hear. And your decision to follow Christ is the best decision you can ever make.

But you also might be thinking, “This is all great, but what happens if we sin again – do we die spiritually? Are we separated from God? Do we need to be saved again?” Those are great questions, and God has a great answer.

The truth is that we will all sin again. Even though we have new life in our spirits, our minds still tend to think and make decisions the same way we used to. As the expression goes, “Nobody’s perfect.”

But God knew this and made provision for it. 1John 1:8-9 shows us what to do if we sin: “If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” What a wonderful promise.

When you find yourself in this situation, the best thing to do is to run to God. While you may feel shame and guilt, the only way to really deal with it is through God. Just be real with God – He knows everything anyway, so there’s no point trying to hide anything. Just admit what you’ve done (confess your sin), and ask Him for forgiveness. And trust in His Word that He “will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”

God has given us life and righteousness, and He wants us to experience these to the fullest! For us to do this, we need to learn about God and His ways. The more you learn, the more you’ll see that His life is the best, most fulfilling and exciting life there is.

Consider

Can you see yourself as righteous in God’s eyes because of Jesus’ death and resurrection?

Have you ever confessed a sin to God and asked forgiveness?
