Day 12 – What Do We Have In Christ?

We ended our last lesson with the understanding that because we are In Christ, we have a new identity; a new nature; we are born again into new life. And since we are now intimately connected to God, there should be a shift in focus from ourselves and our own desires to God and His desires.

This is a good time to start looking at the great benefits of being in Christ. He has a wonderful plan for every person, and the life He offers is the fullest life anyone can live.

Let’s consider who God is; His nature, His attributes and His character: He is perfect, all-powerful, all-knowing, the embodiment of love, holiness itself, supremely creative, utterly intelligent, entirely righteous, unbiased in everything He does, infinitely forgiving and patient, and He eagerly wants to share that with us.

Then let’s recall what He has done for us: He brought us out of spiritual death so we could be united with Him, calling us His children, His bride, even His very body. He has given us His Word to show us how to live this way.

When you think about it for a minute, you realise we are in a phenomenal position! Yes, there is coming a time in the future when we will be even closer to Him when we get to see Him face to face (Rev 22:3-5), but if we truly lay hold on the truth that we are “in Christ” and what it really means, we are closer to this than we know. Even in this world of sin we can enjoy the immense benefits of being in Him.

So what are these benefits? We’ll start by looking at a few attributes that are inherent in Him:

  • Col 1:16 In Him all things were created.
  • Col 2:9 In him all the fullness of the Godhead dwells bodily.
  • 2Cor 11:3 There is simplicity in Christ.
  • Eph 3:11 God accomplished His eternal purpose in Christ.
  • 2Cor 1:20 All the promises of God are Yes and Amen in Him .

Take some time to study and meditate on these. Every one of them is very significant in its own right, and can affect our lives in a big way.

Consider:

Which of these attributes do you find most impactful to your own life?

Has God withheld any good thing from us?
