Day 18 – Good Works, Light, and a Guarantee

We were created for good works in Christ.

Eph 2:10For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.

We weren’t saved by good works, but we were saved for good works. This includes not only service in the church, but anything you can do to be a blessing to others.

And don’t you find it a bit over-the-top that God created these works for us before we were born? (Ps 139:16)

 We are light in Christ.

Eph 5:8For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light.

Light represents spiritual revelation – knowledge that comes from God. Light also represents purity.

Jesus came as the light of the world (Jn 1:49), but then delegated that to us (Matt 5:14). He commanded us to shine our light. Of course our light is really His light because He is the source of all true light. And because we are in Him, His light is in us.

We are sealed by the Holy Spirit in Christ.

Eph 1:13-14In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory.

A seal represents:

We bear the Holy Spirit’s seal because we were purchased by God, and the transaction is final. We bear the seal of God the way a slave would bear the seal of His owner. And the seal also shows that we are secure, knowing the fullness of our redemption is coming.
