Part 5 - Jesus Helps Us Pray (4)

“Give us this day our daily bread.”

Matt 6:11

God knows the things you need in this world. When Jesus used the phrase, “daily bread,” He was talking about all the financial, physical and material things we need to live – food, clothing, a place to live, etc.

While God is most interested in your spiritual wellbeing, He is also very interested in your physical wellbeing. And because He is all-powerful, He’s the best one to trust for this. While it’s easy to expect people like our boss and institutions like the government to take care of us, it’s important to see that God is the best One to fill this role in our lives.

Sure, we may be the ones who work and labour and get paid for it, but if you can see that God is the One who gives you the ability to work, you will start to see Him as your provider.

But more than that, God can also provide in other ways – He’s not dependant on your salary. The truth is that since God created the earth, it belongs to Him. Ps 24:1 NIV says, “The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it…” The more we understand this, the easier it will be for us to let God be our provider. We don’t need to worry about money. He wants us to be generous and He wants us to be responsible, but He doesn’t want us to be anxious.

He knows well that we have to deal with day-to-day life and plan for the future, but when our trust is in Him, He will be faithful to take good care of us.

Consider

What is your attitude about God taking care of your material needs?

How could you be more generous?
