Day 10 - God the Son

Matt 3:17 and behold, a voice out of the heavens said, "This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well-pleased."

We all know the story of Christmas: and angel appeared to Mary and told her she would have a Son. When Mary asked how this could happen because she was a virgin, the angel told her the Holy Spirit would conceive a Son in her. And He did.

Jesus came to earth unlike any other person before Him. And rightly so, because He wasunlike any other person before Him! He was perfect in conception, and He was sinless in His life. He is the only human being who can claim this.

Why did God send Jesus, His Son, to earth? “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16). Jesus came as our Saviour – the One who would rescue us from the trouble sin had created on the earth and in our lives. He came to destroy the works of darkness (1John 3:8), remove us from the kingdom of darkness, and put us into the Kingdom of God (Col 1:13-14).

You see, sin has a price attached to it, and it’s a steep price: death (Rom 6:23). And because we are born into a sinful world, we all owe that debt. God is perfectly holy, and we as sinful people cannot stand before Him. But God wanted us to be able to come to Him.

The only way for this to happen was for the debt to be paid. So Jesus, after living a sinless, perfect life, was nailed to a cross and died in our place. Our sin was placed upon Him, so that His death paid our debt. And because of this, we can now share in His holiness, His righteousness (2Cor 5:21). 

This is the love of God: Jesus the Son sacrificed Himself so we can be free from the penalty of sin! And now we all have the ability to become children – sons and daughters – of God. This was His plan from the beginning.

Let’s be thankful and stay thankful for the sacrifice He made for us!
