Day 1 - Who is God?

Who is God? That’s a big question. To answer it fully is certainly beyond the scope of this study. In fact, it’s beyond the scope of any study. Understanding God in His fullness is beyond the capacity of the human mind. And yet, we can know about Him. And what’s even better; we can know Him. So as you learn more about God, don’t think of it as simply information; think of developing a relationship with Him – it’s amazing, but that’s why we are on this earth.

To learn about God, we turn to the Bible. Rather than relying on our personal beliefs or the shifting winds of cultural opinion, it only makes sense to lean on the wisdom of the ages. The Bible, although written by men, was inspired by God Himself and is therefore a window into His very nature and character.

Isaiah 40:28Have you not known? Have you not heard? The everlasting God, the Lord, The Creator of the ends of the earth, Neither faints nor is weary. His understanding is unsearchable.

God is the Creator of the universe. If you stop and think about that for a minute you’ll begin to see that He must be at the centre of all things. He put this whole thing together, and although it can’t contain Him, He knows everything about it to the tiniest detail. He knows more about quantum physics than we ever will. He was the One who designed the migration routes of all the birds, fish and animals. He know what it takes to hold a galaxy together as it spins like a giant pinwheel.

But more to the point – He knows you. He knows all about you. Everything you’ve ever done. Everything you ever will do. Every word you’ve spoken and every thought that has run through your mind. He knows the good, the bad and the ugly. But this isn’t scary – it’s comforting. We can know and communicate with the Origin of all things. He isn’t only concerned about your eternal future; He is concerned about tomorrow and next week. He’s concerned about every issue you’re facing and He wants to lead you through them.

And as you take time to get to know Him, you’ll appreciate more and more His gentle, wise guidance, and you’ll learn to rest in His great love.

Consider:

What does it mean that God is everlasting?

If His understanding is unsearchable, are there any issues in life He can’t help me with?

If He never faints or grows weary, what does that say about His availability and reliability?
