Day 2 - God is Good

Psalms 100:5 NLT For the Lord is good. His unfailing love continues forever, and his faithfulness continues to each generation.

Before you get to know more about God, it’s very important that you understand this one thing: God is good! As we learn that He is all-powerful and all-knowing, we could get the wrong impression of Him; that He is domineering or out to get us. But nothing could be further from the truth.

This Scripture says it all: He is good! How good is He? Perfectly good – there is no evil in Him. In fact, He is incapable of evil. This can be hard for us to understand because we don’t know anyone else exactly like that. You may know some good people, but you also know that those people have made mistakes, maybe hurt others, and you may have seen some selfishness on their part occasionally.

On the other hand, we all know of some people who you wouldn’t necessarily describe as good. We hear every day about criminals and dictators that strain our trust in humankind. And the thought of a person having all power is troubling.

But God is different: He is pure and holy. 1John 1:5says “…God is light and in Him is no darkness at all.” He is only capable of good, because His nature is absolutely good.

“His unfailing love continues forever, and his faithfulness continues to each generation.” This helps us see how good He is. His love never fails, and He is faithful to be good to all generations. God’s love is not like human love – it’s unfailing, always desiring the best for others. He always knows what’s best and always does what’s best.

We can rest in God’s goodness.

Consider:

Think of the best person you know, considering their best qualities and their faithfulness. Now imagine that magnified infinitely – this is God.

Think of a time when someone you trusted let you down. Now thank God that He will never let you down.
